Update: Some photos of the event:

Friday, 29th of November 2013, 2.00 – 8.00 p.m.

Albert Schweitzer Haus, Großer Saal, Schwarzspanierstraße 13, 1090 Vienna

The partnership fair is organised by Afrika Vernetzungsplattform (AVP), Arbeitsgemeinschaft Globale Verantwortung, Südwind Agentur and VIDC with the aim of establishing a better understanding between developmental and diaspora communities, as well as encouraging cooperations in the area of migration & development. These kind of cooperations are important, because many players from the diasporas in Austria who are involved in the developmental scene are hardly noticed by the developmental crowd and correspondingly hardly ever supported publicly. This is due to the fact that diaspora organisations are very often only informally organised and are respectively weakly institutionalised.  They are mainly working on a honorary basis and have little ressources for marketing and lobbying at their disposal.

Nevertheless they provide individual and collective remittances to countries of origin and support with these private healthcare, education and other similar activities of  development cooperation.

For the developmental crowd a stronger cooperation with diaspora organisations means, that paternalistic tendencies in development cooperation are countered and the expertise of migrants is harnessed to full advantage.

The fair is part of the transnational project CoMiDe-Initiative for migration and development, more information in german is available at www.vidc.org.

The partnership fair is divided into four parts:

1. Presentation of a few „Good Practice-Examples“ in relation to „migration and development“

2. Speed Dating: Interested developmental and intercultural NGOs as well as migrant and diaspora initiatives have the possibility to present themselves and get to know each other.

3. Topical Dating: At an interactive market place possible project partners can exchange and explore possible ways of cooperation.

4. After these round of talks working groups are built, who develop possible models of partnership and project ideas for tandem projects between developmental and intercultural NGOs as well as migrants and diaspora initiatives.
